QR codes encode text in a square grid that a camera can read. Error correction adds redundancy so some damaged modules can be recovered.
Common mistakes and limitations
Long input produces dense codes. Higher error correction reduces capacity. Keep the white quiet zone and test at the intended print size. A QR code does not validate a destination’s safety.
Text payloads and URLs
A QR code encodes a payload into a two-dimensional pattern. A URL payload is still text; scanner software recognizes its shape and may offer to open it. Use a complete https URL when that is the intended destination, and test the scan before printing. This generator does not add campaign parameters, shortened tracking links or redirects. If a destination itself tracks visitors, generating its QR code locally does not change that destination’s behavior.
Quiet zones and scanning reliability
A clear margin around the code helps a scanner locate its boundaries. Do not crop away that quiet zone or cover it with artwork. More data creates a denser pattern, so a short URL can remain easier to scan at a small print size than a long text paragraph. High contrast, sufficient physical size and a clean export all matter. Enlarging a tiny raster image with smoothing can blur the square modules.
Error correction is not unlimited
QR codes include error-correction information that can recover some damaged data. The bundled generator uses its default error-correction setting; this page does not expose custom levels or promise recovery from every obstruction. Large logos, folds, low contrast and reflective surfaces can still make a code unreadable. Test on more than one device and at the intended viewing distance. Local generation means the payload is not uploaded for QR creation, but the code itself reveals that payload to anyone who scans it.
Choose a durable destination
A printed QR code cannot be edited after distribution. Confirm that the destination is a URL you can keep working and that it uses the intended scheme. Scan the exported code rather than only the on-screen preview. Avoid sensitive payloads when other people may photograph the code: a Wi-Fi password, invitation token or private link is still visible data once it has been encoded.
